Welsh Streets, Liverpool

The Welsh Streets is an area of over 400 terraced houses next to Liverpool’s Princes Park which has historically held appeal to young and old alike, offering affordable housing in a friendly neighbourhood.

However, their continued existence has been under threat due to lack of investment in the properties, with several attempts to demolish the properties only aborted after significant local protest in light of their social and historical value.

MCAU have been appointed to restore these fantastic Victorian properties, whilst bringing internal layouts and rear façades in line with modern family values. Properties will be remodelled from 3 into 2 and 2 into 1 to provide larger homes alongside removal of outriggers to provide large gardens and community spaces at the rear where previously stood narrow alleys.
