MCAU was founded by David Skidmore and Neil Brown who have extensive and award winning architectural, urban design, and client side experience. Both have over two decades of work experience at the forefront of the design and development industry.
Our growing team of Architects and Urbanists are an ambitious group of individuals. Each person has an extensive background in large commercial practice. Ready to embrace any new challenge, every member has been carefully selected to share the commitment and drive essential to our interactive working environment.
David is highly experienced having worked 25 years within the design and property development sectors. He has held board director and senior roles within international architects practices, and has delivered many award winning schemes across the UK across many work sectors. Most notably in the mixed use, residential, and retail sectors. Having worked client side for a number of years David has a true understanding of our clients’ needs and pressures, and is obsessed that all of our projects meet viability, and are delivered with excellent design solutions. Adding value on behalf of the client, and into the process at all work stages.
David is also passionate about seriously playing ‘our’ part in an increasingly complex and changing urban environment, the reason MCAU was set up. His approach is very hands on, particularly in the early stages of the project. He believes that deeply thought out strategy, and design concepts which are grounded on a commercial awareness are necessary to ensure that all our projects we work on can ultimately be delivered. David sees it is MCAU’s duty to bring forward great design and a new urbanism, responding where we can to uphold ‘Sustainable Development Goals’ in our increasingly changing world answering where we can Modern City problems.
Neil studied at Manchester University and has been a qualified architect and RIBA member since 2000. He previously held Director positions at some of Manchester’s leading commercial practices and was more recently at Broadway Malyan, as well as PlaceFirst Architects. His exceptional design talent, combined with a very practical ability to lead projects from inception through to completion, is exemplary.
Neil has well over 20 years experience in architectural practices and has an extensive background in a wide range of sectors including residential, mixed-use, work-place, heritage, education and leisure. His architecture has won several awards over the years and his hands-on design input with everything that comes through our door, as well as leading various teams simultaneously, is fundamental to the running of our practice.
